What is the DSO Competition Team?
Our competition team is a group of dancers who have shown commitment to their dance training and want to dedicate extra practice to learning exciting, new choreography with a number of competition and performance opportunities throughout the year.
What is the goal of the Competition Team?
Although we will be entering competitions, our number one goal is to develop confident, dedicated and focused performers who enjoy working as part of a supportive and encouraging team! We aim to teach our competition dancers the values of what it means to be part of a team, it’s not just about ‘winning’ or ‘trophies’ but working together, striving for self improvement and HAVING FUN!
‘Company’ will consist of dancers who are highly experienced in their performance skills and dance technique having spent several years in dance training. Dancers who are successful in their audition for Company will be required to commit to a minimum of 4 classes per week and MUST INCLUDE Ballet and Jazz techniques. We also recommend contemporary, technique/boot camp and conditioning classes. This team is intended to push dancers to their highest level in technique and performance ability. Company will compete at Intermediate and Advanced Levels. Company will also be expected to attend National competition in Summer.
‘Jr Company’ will consist of dancers who are looking to develop their performance skills alongside learning new technique and choreography. Dancers who are successful in their audition for Jr Company will be required to commit to a minimum of 2 classes per week, in their chosen style. This team is ideal for dancers with limited performance experience but are motivated and dedicated to working hard and expanding their technique and performance skills. Jr Company will compete at Rookie and Intermediate levels.
Both teams are expected to fully commit to their rehearsal and performance schedules. Each member will be required to attend an audition, parents will be required to attend a team meeting and all dancers will be required to agree to a competition contract.
